J ust like Celeron, Xeon is a marketing name created by Intel during Pentium II Era, but for its high-end professional cpu models, for servers and workstations.
Xeon's name was originally associated with base processor's name (Pentium II Xeon, Pentium III Xeon), but from Netburst generation, it is used alone.
Xeon are still produced and are now base on Core Architecture.

The different models of Xeon belong to 4 different architectures :

P6 Architecture
Netburst Architecture
Mobile Architecture
Core Architecture
Nehalem Architecture
Sandy Bridge Architecture
Haswell Architecture
Skylake Architecture
